Kerala Destination Wedding Cost 2026: Backwaters, Beaches and the Hills, Priced for 200 Guests

In short

A two-day destination wedding in Kerala for 200 guests costs about ₹35 lakh to 1.3 crore before jewellery and outfits. Backwater and Wayanad four-star buyouts sit at ₹35–55 lakh, Taj-tier resorts at ₹55–85 lakh, and the top Kumarakom and Kovalam resorts at ₹90 lakh to 1.3 crore, plus 18 percent GST on hotel lines.

Kerala prices in three clear bands for a 200-guest, two-day wedding with three or four functions. A four-star backwater or hill resort buyout, with decor, photography, sound, transport and planning added, lands at ₹35–55 lakh. The Taj-tier resorts in Bekal, Kumarakom and Wayanad, and the Grand Hyatt in Kochi, push the same brief to ₹55–85 lakh. Kumarakom Lake Resort and the Leela in Kovalam sit at ₹90 lakh to 1.3 crore. Every figure excludes jewellery and outfits, and hotel lines carry 18 percent GST on top. For context, a 2025-26 industry survey put the average Indian destination wedding at about ₹58 lakh, which falls squarely in Kerala's lower-middle band.

The range for 200 guests

The backwaters are where Kerala's wedding market is widest. In Kumarakom, the Zuri publishes a full buyout at ₹40 lakh for 150–180 guests over two nights: 72 rooms, the venues and all meals. Its listing is undated, so treat the figure as a floor. Kumarakom Lake Resort is the other extreme, at ₹50 lakh a day for 77 rooms, three meals and venue, with plates of ₹4,500–5,500 and decor from ₹10 lakh. Two days there is roughly ₹1 crore before decor. Alleppey is cheaper: district resorts charge ₹850–1,650 a plate, a 200-guest two-day wedding at a backwater resort runs ₹16–27 lakh on venue alone, and a premium buyout ₹30–45 lakh.

Backwaters: Kumarakom and Alleppey

The coast is a different price. The Leela in Kovalam quotes ₹5,000–7,500 a plate and a room block of ₹25–75 lakh for two or three nights, so a two-day, three-event wedding for 180–200 guests comes to ₹90 lakh to 1.2 crore. Taj Green Cove, also in Kovalam, lists ₹3,500–4,500 a plate. Varkala, about 1.5 hours north of Trivandrum, has smaller cliff-top properties and no comparable published packages, so budget it by quotation. In the far north, Taj Bekal lists ₹2,000–2,500 a plate with a ₹75,000 rental, and planner guides place a 150-guest wedding there at ₹50–90 lakh and 250 guests at ₹90 lakh to 1.6 crore.

Coast and hills: Kovalam, Bekal and Wayanad

The hills are Kerala's quiet bargain, with the smallest room counts. Taj Wayanad has 61 rooms, lists ₹2,000–2,500 a plate and a ₹1 lakh venue rental, and hosts 75–350 guests. Sterling Wayanad charges ₹800–1,200 a plate and Windflower Vythiri ₹600–750, with 61 and 40 rooms respectively. At those rates a two-day wedding sits at the bottom of the state range, ₹35–50 lakh, provided you accept a split across two properties for 200 guests. Munnar's resorts are smaller still and publish no comparable packages, so treat it as a destination for 100 guests or fewer, and allow roughly four hours by road from Kochi.

Kochi suits families who want flights, hospitals and a city hotel. Taj Malabar publishes ₹18 lakh a day for 85 rooms, three meals and venue, with plates at ₹4,000–4,500, though its lawn seats only 100. Vivanta Marine Drive lists ₹1,100–2,150 a plate across 108 rooms and Taj Cochin Airport ₹2,500–3,500 across 111. Planner guides put a 150–250 guest, two-event Kochi wedding at ₹30–55 lakh, with a room block of ₹8–35 lakh. Grand Hyatt Kochi is the city's top end and is quoted at ₹60 lakh to 1.8 crore all in. The trade-off is atmosphere: ballrooms and a waterfront, not a lagoon lawn.

Kochi city hotels

Season moves the bill by a quarter. December and January are peak and add 15–25 percent; the south-west monsoon, June to August, cuts hotel lines by 20–30 percent but brings heavy rain, humidity and rough seas, so we do not recommend it for outdoor functions. October to March is the working window. Access is easy by Indian standards: Kochi airport serves Kumarakom and Alleppey in about 1.5–2 hours by road, Trivandrum serves Kovalam in under an hour and Varkala in about 1.5 hours, and Calicut serves Wayanad in 2–3 hours. Charter coaches or a fleet of cars for guests; the last stretch to a backwater resort is often a narrow road or a boat.

Our synthesis from venue-directory listings, a state tourism listing and 2026 planner and marketplace guides, for three or four functions with planner-led decor. Excludes jewellery and outfits. GST at 18 percent extra on hotel lines. Peak December and January adds 15–25 percent.

Season and getting there

Budget the lines the resort does not quote. On marketplace figures, five-star rooms run ₹10,000–20,000 a night and resort buffets ₹1,000–2,500 a plate, with a Kumarakom venue rental premium of ₹8–12 lakh at the top addresses. Flying in your own decorator, makeup artist or photographer adds ₹50,000 to 1.5 lakh per vendor in travel and stay. At the four-star end, decor, photography, sound, transport and planning together add ₹12–20 lakh; at the top resorts decor alone starts at ₹10 lakh. Add 18 percent GST on hotel lines, and keep 5–10 percent aside for the boat transfers, generators and rain cover that Kerala quietly needs.

Extras and the Hindu ceremony

A north Indian Hindu ceremony needs a few things Kerala does not supply by default. Confirm in writing that the resort allows a havan with an open flame on the lawn, and where. Baraat routes inside resorts are short and often over water, so plan a boat arrival rather than a horse. Local caterers excel at Kerala food; a north Indian or Marwari menu usually means flying a caterer in, at the travel rates above. Book a pandit who travels, and agree the muhurat with the resort early, because dawn and late-night functions affect staffing. Finally, humidity: choose flowers that survive it and light, breathable fabrics for the mandap.

Common questions

How much does a destination wedding in Kerala cost?+

A two-day Kerala destination wedding for 200 guests costs about ₹35 lakh to 1.3 crore, excluding jewellery and outfits. Four-star backwater and Wayanad buyouts sit at ₹35–55 lakh, Taj-tier resorts at ₹55–85 lakh, and Kumarakom Lake Resort or the Leela Kovalam at ₹90 lakh to 1.3 crore. Add 18 percent GST on hotel lines.

Which part of Kerala is cheapest for a wedding?+

Alleppey and Wayanad. Alleppey resorts charge ₹850–1,650 a plate, and a 200-guest two-day wedding at a backwater resort runs ₹16–27 lakh on venue alone, or ₹30–45 lakh for a premium buyout. Wayanad plates run ₹600–2,500. Both have small room counts, so 200 guests usually means two properties.

What is the per-plate cost at Kerala wedding resorts?+

Published directory rates run from ₹600–750 a plate at small Wayanad resorts to ₹1,300–1,700 at the Zuri and Taj Kumarakom, ₹2,000–3,000 at Taj Bekal, Gateway Bekal and Taj Wayanad, ₹3,500–4,500 at Taj Green Cove and Taj Malabar, and ₹4,500–7,500 at Kumarakom Lake Resort and the Leela Kovalam.

When is the best season for a Kerala wedding?+

October to March. December and January are peak and add 15–25 percent to hotel lines. The south-west monsoon, June to August, discounts hotels by 20–30 percent but brings heavy rain, humidity and rough seas, so outdoor functions become a gamble. Plan the booking early for the winter dates everyone wants.

Which airport do you fly into for a Kerala wedding?+

Kochi for Kumarakom, Alleppey and the city hotels, about 1.5–2 hours by road to the backwaters. Trivandrum for Kovalam, under an hour away, and Varkala at about 1.5 hours. Calicut for Wayanad, a 2–3 hour hill drive. Kannur is nearest to Bekal. Budget coaches or cars for every leg.

Can we hold a full Hindu wedding with a havan at a Kerala resort?+

Usually yes, but confirm the open-flame rule and the exact lawn in writing. Baraat routes are short and often over water, so plan a boat arrival. Fly in a travelling pandit and, for a north Indian menu, a caterer, at ₹50,000 to 1.5 lakh per vendor. Agree the muhurat with the resort early.
