Indian Wedding Invitations: What 100 Cards Cost, What to Write, How Many to Order and When to Send

In short

For 100 cards, budget ₹2,500–5,000 for simple digital-print cards (₹25–50 each), ₹6,000–12,000 for foil or laser-cut cards with inserts (₹60–120) and ₹15,000–40,000 for premium boxed invites (₹150–400). Add a one-time design fee from ₹2,000, plus envelopes and courier at ₹15–100 a card. Printers' minimums are usually 50–100.

The invitation is the first thing most guests see of the wedding, and the line families most often misjudge: too few cards, ordered too late, or a boxed invite that cost more than the sangeet bar. This guide puts numbers on it, from Delhi's Chawri Bazar printers' own price lists and Indian invite platforms, read in October 2026.

What do 100 invitations cost?

What 100 cards cost. Simple digital-print cards run ₹25–50 each, so ₹2,500–5,000 per hundred. Foil, emboss or laser-cut cards with function inserts run ₹60–120, about ₹6,000–12,000 per hundred. Premium boxed invitations, the padded box with sweets or dry fruit, run ₹150–400 a box, ₹15,000–40,000 per hundred before the contents. Add a one-time design fee from ₹2,000, envelopes, and courier at ₹15–100 a card depending on where the guests live. Most printers set a minimum of 50–100 cards; mini batches from 10 exist for extra family names.

What goes on the card

What goes on the card. Indian cards follow a set order. The invocation first: Shree Ganeshaya Namah for Hindu families, Ik Onkar for Sikh, Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim for Muslim. Then the hosts, often 'with the blessings of' the grandparents, who 'request the pleasure of your company' at the wedding of the couple, each named with their parents. Then the functions, one block each: name, date, time, venue, with the baraat time for the groom's side. Dress code and RSVP details close the main card, and a 'with best compliments' page lists siblings, cousins and family who join the invitation.

How many to order

How many to order. Count households, not people. One card per family covers three to four guests on average and shrinks a 400-name list to 100–120 cards. Then add 10–15% for the names that arrive late, the keepsakes both families want and the envelopes that get addressed wrong. Round up to the printer's next slab of 100: a run of 310 often costs the same as 400, so order 400 and keep the spares.

How to design it

Designing it. Decide the symbol and palette first, because they fix the rest: Ganesh and gold, Ik Onkar in a Phulkari palette, Bismillah calligraphy in green and ivory. Choose the paper weight next, 250–300 GSM for a card that stands up on a mantelpiece, then the finish. Keep one main card and one insert per function rather than printing every detail on one sheet, and put a QR code on the digital version that opens the RSVP. Allow three to four weeks for printing, longer for boxes and laser-cut work.

The invitation video

The invitation video. Most families now send a video on WhatsApp before the card arrives. Templated videos from Indian platforms run ₹1,200–6,000; custom caricature or animated films run ₹8,000–25,000; many pre-wedding photographers bundle a short invite into the shoot. Keep it to 30–60 seconds, vertical for WhatsApp status, under 16 MB so it sends without compression, with the couple's names in the first three seconds and a final frame of dates and venue that guests can screenshot.

When to send each one

When each one goes out. Save-the-dates five to six months before the wedding, and eight to ten months for a destination wedding where guests must book flights and leave. Have the card designed five months out, because printing takes three to four weeks. Start distributing printed cards three to four months before, and finish at least six weeks out; outstation guests need six to eight weeks. Digital and video invites go two to three months before, with a reminder three weeks out and the RSVP deadline six to eight weeks before the day.

If you want the card to carry the wedding's design, our Invitation Studio builds digital invitations and save-the-dates on painted plates with RSVP built in, and we design the printed set to match.

Common questions

How much should 100 invitations cost?+

For 100 cards, budget ₹2,500–5,000 for simple digital-print cards (₹25–50 each), ₹6,000–12,000 for foil or laser-cut cards with inserts (₹60–120) and ₹15,000–40,000 for premium boxed invites (₹150–400). Add a one-time design fee from ₹2,000, plus envelopes and courier at ₹15–100 a card. Printers' minimums are usually 50–100.

What do you write on a wedding invitation?+

Open with the invocation, Shree Ganeshaya Namah, Ik Onkar or Bismillah, then the hosts, often 'with the blessings of' the elders, who 'request the pleasure of your company' at the wedding of the couple, with parents' names. List each function with date, time and venue, the baraat time, dress code and RSVP, and close with a 'with best compliments' page naming siblings and family.

How many wedding invitations to order?+

Count households, not guests: one card per family usually covers three to four people and trims the list by 15–20%. Add 10–15% extra for late additions, keepsakes and addressing mistakes, then round up to the printer's slab of 100, because 310 cards often costs the same as 400.

How to design an Indian wedding card?+

Start from the symbol and palette: Ganesh and gold, Ik Onkar, Bismillah calligraphy. Choose the paper weight (250–300 GSM), then the finish: digital print, foil, emboss, laser-cut or a padded box. Keep one main card plus an insert per function, add a QR code to the digital invite, and allow three to four weeks for printing.

How to make a wedding invitation video?+

Choose a templated video (₹1,200–6,000) or a custom caricature or animated one (₹8,000–25,000) from an Indian invite platform, or ask your pre-wedding photographer, who often bundles a WhatsApp invite. Keep it 30–60 seconds, vertical for WhatsApp status, under 16 MB, with the hook in the first three seconds and screenshot-able details at the end.

When to send wedding invitations?+

Save-the-date five to six months out, earlier for a destination wedding. Have the card designed five months ahead, start distributing printed cards three to four months before and finish at least six weeks out; outstation guests need six to eight weeks. Digital and video invites go two to three months before, with a reminder three weeks out.
