Wedding Entry Ideas for the Bride and Groom: 15 That Work in India

In short

For the bride: phoolon ki chadar, a doli, a chhatri walk, a boat arrival at a lake venue, or a slow walk with live music. For the groom: the baraat, then a short dance at the gate. Rehearse on site, cut the song to the walk, and clear pyros with the venue first.

The entry is the one moment every guest is looking the same way. It is also where weddings most often go wrong: a song that runs out halfway down the aisle, a canopy nobody rehearsed, a horse the venue won't allow. These are the entries we plan most, and what each one needs to work.

Bride entry ideas

For the bride, the phoolon ki chadar is the classic. Four or more brothers and cousins carry a canopy of fresh flowers over her as she walks to the mandap or stage. Rehearse it once, with the actual canopy, at the actual pace.

A doli or palki carries the bride in on the shoulders of family, which looks beautiful and needs strong, sober volunteers and a short, level route.

A chhatri walk sets the bride under an embroidered or floral umbrella. It works in narrow spaces where a canopy won't fit, and it photographs well from the front.

At a lake or riverside venue, arriving by boat is unforgettable. Udaipur's lake palaces and Rishikesh's river venues are made for it. Check the weather, the jetty and the time it takes to get from the boat to the stage.

A slow walk with live music, a single singer, shehnai or strings, lets the bride set her own pace. It is the most forgiving entry if nerves or a heavy lehenga slow her down.

Some brides dance in with their friends or sisters, a choreographed minute that turns into the whole sangeet. Save it for the sangeet or reception, where the floor is flat and the outfit allows it.

Groom entry ideas

For the groom, the baraat is the entry. On horseback, in a vintage car or on foot with dhol and the whole family dancing, it almost always runs long. Plan for 45 to 75 minutes, and check the venue's rules on horses, road access and fireworks.

At the venue gate, many grooms add a short dance with friends before the varmala. It gives the photographers a clean moment and gives the bride's side time to get into place.

Couple entry ideas

For the couple, a joint entry at the reception, walking in together to one song, is simple and always lands. Light the path, and agree who cues the music.

Rose petals, a light shower of confetti or a line of family holding diyas all make an entry feel larger without slowing it down. Cold pyros and sparklers need the venue's permission first; many hotels restrict them indoors.

Which songs work for a wedding entry?

Songs matter more than the staging. For brides, families keep returning to Din Shagna Da, Kesariya, Ranjha and Saajanji Ghar Aaye. For grooms and the baraat, Gallan Goodiyaan and Morni Banke fill the floor. Cut the track to the length of the walk, and test it on the venue's sound system.

What does every entry need?

Whatever you choose, the entry needs three things from the plan: a rehearsal on site, one person cueing music and lights, and a clear path. Our décor team designs the gate, aisle and stage around the entry, not the other way round.

Common questions

What are the best bride entry ideas for an Indian wedding?+

The phoolon ki chadar, a canopy of flowers carried by the bride's brothers or cousins, is the classic. A doli or palki, a walk under a chhatri, a boat arrival at a lake venue and a slow walk with live music all work. Pick one that suits the venue and the bride's pace.

What are good groom entry ideas?+

The baraat itself is the groom's entry: on horseback, in a vintage car or on foot with dhol and the whole family dancing. Some grooms add a short dance with friends at the venue gate before the varmala.

Which songs are popular for a bride's entry?+

Families keep returning to Din Shagna Da, Kesariya, Ranjha and Saajanji Ghar Aaye. Choose a version that is slow enough to walk to, and check the music can be cut cleanly when she reaches the stage.

Are cold pyros and sparklers allowed at wedding entries?+

It depends on the venue. Many hotels restrict pyrotechnics indoors and some ban open flames on lawns. Ask before you plan the entry around them, and get the permission in writing.

How long should a wedding entry last?+

Most entries work best in a few minutes, the length of one song. The exception is the baraat, which almost always runs long: plan for 45 to 75 minutes.
