Triyuginarayan Temple Wedding: Cost, Booking and How to Get There (2026)

In short

Couples register with the local priests' committee, months ahead. The temple part cost one couple about ₹30,000 in 2026 and their 20-guest wedding ₹1.5 to 1.7 lakh. Fly to Dehradun, drive via Rudraprayag to Sonprayag, and avoid the July to September monsoon.

Triyuginarayan is a small village temple in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district, and it has become one of India's fastest-growing wedding destinations. Couples come for one reason: the belief that Shiva and Parvati were married here. This guide sets out what is known, with sources, about booking, cost, access and the rules.

Why do couples marry at Triyuginarayan?

Believers hold that Vishnu conducted the divine wedding as Parvati's brother and Brahma served as the priest. A fire, the Akhand Dhuni, burns in the havan kund in front of the temple and is believed to have burned ever since; the name Triyugi refers to its burning through three yugas. Couples take their pheras around it.

How many weddings happen there?

Weddings here have multiplied. Amar Ujala counted about 80 in 2022. The priests' committee told ETV Bharat it had conducted more than 1,564 between November 2025 and July 2026. The state announced plans in 2018 to develop the temple as a Vedic wedding destination.

How do you book a Triyuginarayan wedding?

Weddings are registered with the Tirth Purohit Samiti, the local priests' committee, in person at the temple or by phone. Amar Ujala reported a registration fee of ₹1,100 in 2023. Couples bring Aadhaar or a passport, address proof and photographs. Dates fill early: in June 2023, bookings were already full until March 2024.

Who controls the bookings has been contested. In January 2024 the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee said couples would need its permission, through an online process; the local priests opposed it. We could not confirm the online system went live, so check the current process before you fix a date.

Is the marriage legally registered?

The Samiti issues a handwritten marriage certificate after the ceremony. For a legally registered marriage, couples still register it with the government under the Hindu Marriage Act.

How much does a Triyuginarayan wedding cost?

On cost, the temple part is modest. One couple told the Times of India in August 2026 that registration, the pandit and the certificate came to about ₹30,000, and their 20-guest wedding cost ₹1.5 to 1.7 lakh in total, including about ₹50,000 for a hotel with meals. The Economic Times reported tiers from ₹35,000 for a couple alone to ₹8 to 15 lakh or more for luxury weddings with helicopter transfers.

How do you get to Triyuginarayan?

Getting there takes most of a day. Fly to Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, or take the train to Rishikesh or Haridwar, then drive via Rudraprayag and Guptkashi to Sonprayag. From Sonprayag the temple is 12 to 13 km by road or 5 km on the old footpath. The village sits at 1,980 m, so plan for elders and the cold.

When is the best time to go?

Season decides the experience. The monsoon, July to September, is the hardest time on hill roads. The Kedarnath yatra fills the same road from late April to early November. A local planner told Swarajya the wedding window is November to April, when Kedarnath is closed. Winter brings cold and, sometimes, snow.

Where do guests stay?

Rooms are the real limit. The government-run GMVN Shiv Gaura complex sits about 120 m from the temple, and GMVN charges ₹40,000 plus GST a day for open-area wedding use, with lawns, halls and catering extra. Homestays and hotels are growing in the village and at Sonprayag and Guptkashi, but a large guest list will be spread out.

What are the rules?

Keep it simple. A local planner quoted by Swarajya in 2024 said they don't encourage wedding parties of more than 50 people. The norms being proposed then ruled out DJs, drones, firecrackers, brass bands and alcohol. These are guidance rather than published rules, but they describe the place: a temple wedding, not a palace one.

Can you add a bigger celebration?

If you want the sacred ceremony and a larger celebration, a common shape is the pheras at Triyuginarayan with close family, followed by a reception in Rishikesh, Dehradun or your home city. We plan the travel, rooms and reception around the temple's slot, and leave the ceremony to the priests whose temple it is.
