What do you write on a wedding invitation?

Open with the invocation, Shree Ganeshaya Namah, Ik Onkar or Bismillah, then the hosts, often 'with the blessings of' the elders, who 'request the pleasure of your company' at the wedding of the couple, with parents' names. List each function with date, time and venue, the baraat time, dress code and RSVP, and close with a 'with best compliments' page naming siblings and family.

How to plan an Indian wedding step by step?

Agree the total budget and guest range with both families. Confirm the planner, then the venue and date together, 14–18 months out for peak season. Book the photographer, sangeet entertainment and room blocks next, then décor, catering and outfits 6–9 months out. Send invitations 3–4 months ahead and lock the run sheet in the final month.

How to prepare a wedding guest list?

Start with both families' must-invite lists, count households rather than names, and sort everyone into three tiers: must, should and could. Agree the cap before the venue, because every guest is rooms multiplied by nights multiplied by plates. Keep the third tier as the reserve for when the first two decline.

When to start wedding planning?

For a peak-season destination wedding between November and February, start 14–18 months out; iconic venues book 12–16 months ahead. A city wedding can be planned in 6–9 months, and six months is workable off-peak. Confirm the planner first, then venue and date together, because every other line hangs from them.

What should be on an Indian wedding checklist?

Date and budget first, then the venue and room block, then the vendors who book out earliest: photographer, videographer and bridal makeup artist. After that come décor, catering, mehendi, music, outfits, invitations, guest travel and the run sheet for each function.

Is three months enough to plan a wedding in India?

For a city wedding or an off-peak date, yes, with compromises: the top venues and photographers for peak winter dates will already be gone, and couture orders need 6–8 months. Book venue and date together in week one, photographer and sangeet entertainment in week two, send digital invites by week four and skip the pre-wedding shoot or keep it local.

What is the correct order to plan a wedding?

Budget and guest range with both families first, then the planner, then venue and date together (14–18 months out for peak season), then the room block. Next the photographer and sangeet entertainment at 10–14 months, décor, catering and outfits at 6–9 months, invitations at 3–4 months, and the run sheet in the final month.

Is there a wedding planning spreadsheet for Indian weddings?

Yes. Our Indian wedding checklist is built as a month-by-month sheet, with a downloadable budget planner PDF that uses the same split we benchmark real weddings against. Keep one tab for quotes, one for payments, one for the guest list by household and one per function, and update it every time something is signed.

How do you plan an intimate 50-guest Indian wedding?

Choose a venue that is full with 50, a boutique heritage hotel, a villa or a 20–30-room resort, so the wedding does not look thin. Hold two functions, not five, spend what you saved on rooms and food per guest, and keep the pheras and a long dinner at the centre. Under 100 guests, venues quote case by case, so get three dated proposals.

What percentage of invited guests attend an Indian wedding?

Our working rule across the weddings we plan: 70–80 percent of invited households turn up to a home-city wedding and 50–65 percent to a destination wedding, lower when guests must fly or take leave. Count households rather than names, because one card covers three to four guests. Lock the per-plate guarantee at your realistic floor six to eight weeks out, after the RSVP deadline.

Are wedding hashtags still a thing?

Yes, though their job has changed: fewer guests post publicly, so the hashtag now mostly helps the couple find guest photos and reels afterwards. One hashtag for the whole wedding beats one per function. Check it is not already in use, print it on the invite and the welcome signage, and keep it short enough to type at a sangeet.
