What does a wedding planner do?

A wedding planner builds the plan and then carries it: the budget, the venue shortlist and negotiation, every vendor contract and payment, guest rooms and travel, a run sheet for each function and a team on the ground on the days. The family attends; the planner carries. A day-of coordinator only runs the final weeks.

Is a wedding planner worth it?

For a local wedding at one or two venues with a family member free to run it, often not. For a destination or multi-day wedding with room blocks and guests travelling, usually yes: a planner buying for sixty weddings a year gets vendor rates a one-time buyer cannot, and those savings often offset the fee. Judge it on a real quote.

Do wedding planners save you money?

Often, yes, but judge it on arithmetic. A planner buying for sixty weddings a year gets vendor rates a one-time buyer cannot; on a ₹1.5 crore wedding vendor savings of 8–12 percent are normal, which can offset a fee of ₹2.5–8.5 lakh. The honest test is a written budget with vendor quotes in your name.

How much of the budget should go to the wedding planner?

Percentage-based planners in India charge 10–15 percent of the total for full-service work, 15–20 percent for complex destination weddings. Fixed fees exist too: our published collections run ₹2.5–5 lakh for a Delhi NCR wedding of about 150 guests and ₹3.5–8.5 lakh for 250 guests in Jaipur or Udaipur, plus GST.

Do wedding planners take commission from vendors?

Some do, and that is where a 'free' planner gets paid. The fix is four questions: is your fee published, do vendor quotes and contracts come in our name, can we meet every vendor, and do we sign off every payment? With those in place you see every rupee; our own fee is fixed and published.

Do wedding planners help find the venue?

Yes, and it is usually the first job. A full-service planner builds the shortlist from your guest count, budget, date and style, arranges site visits, negotiates the contract and the room block, and checks curfews, corkage, overtime and GST treatment before you sign. Day-of coordinators join after the venue is booked.

What is the difference between a budget and a luxury wedding planner?

Scope, team and accountability. A day-of coordinator (₹50,000–1.5 lakh) runs the final weeks from your contracts. A partial planner (₹75,000–3 lakh) handles named areas. A full-service luxury planner carries venue, every vendor, budget, guest travel and the days themselves, for 10–15 percent of the budget or a fixed fee from ₹2.5 lakh.

How do destination wedding planners charge?

Mostly as a percentage, 10–15 percent of the total and up to 20 percent for destination weddings with heavy logistics, so ₹8–20 lakh for a 150-guest Goa wedding and ₹12–30 lakh in Udaipur at the luxury tier. Some planners quote a fixed fee instead: ours is ₹3.5–8.5 lakh for 250 guests in Jaipur or Udaipur.

How do working couples plan a big Indian wedding?

Decide the three big things early, planner, venue and guest count, then let one accountable person run the rest. Keep every quote and payment in one sheet, hold weekly 30-minute calls, approve décor and menus in batches, and brief one relative per family as the on-the-day contact. Most of our couples visit the venue twice.
